Lady's bedroom

The lady's bedroom is closed off with double doors to keep the warmth of the fire in the room. It was not unusual to place a four-poster bed in an alcove for extra warmth and intimacy. By today's standards, the bed is quite short. People were smaller on average back then and they also slept in a semi-sitting position. The cherry wood bedside table in the alcove is called a “stilletje”. When you slide open the lid, the piece of furniture turns into a toilet with a beautiful porcelain pot. Most of the porcelain collection is displayed in the cupboards.
